NEW MEETUP
It’s May and it’s been a while so please come along to AF7 and take part in some heated chat with the following speakers:
Benedict Singleton
Ben will be talking about his fascinating PhD:
Tearing Off the Peacock’s Tail: Beyond ‘Service Design’
‘Service design’ is more talked about than practiced, and the talk largely consists of big-hearted polemics about neighbourliness and responsibility, mixed with ‘participatory’ methods rehashed from marketing. So what would ‘service design’ look like if we stripped away the relentlessly positive self-promotion, and took it to be a highly political and not-at-all ‘intangible’ affair – that is, a field of design?
Joseph Harrington
Joseph will also be talking about his design/genetics mash-up PhD :
“Man ceased to be a wild animal only when he built the first wall….only when by means of that wall we isolated our perfect machine world from the irrational, ugly world, of trees, birds, and animals.”
‘We’ – published 1928
Working with Egenis at Exeter University, part of the genomics network, Joseph is running a research project to explore how design can act to mediate socially constructed species boundaries at the genetic level.
Sascha Pohflepp
Sascha will be telling us about his upcoming ‘Ideas-in-the-Making’ Summer Research Residency at Art Center’s Graduate Media Design program entitled SuperCalifornia.
Oh he will also be sharing stories about his recent geoengineering adventures.
